Table 3 Concentration of heavy metal (mg/kg) in filamentous algae samples in three out of eight sites

From: Urban mosquitoes and filamentous green algae: their biomonitoring role in heavy metal pollution in open drainage channels in Nairobi industrial area, Kenya

Site of samples collection Heavy metals that were analyzed (mg/kg)
Sample’s code Hg (1.0)a Pb (0.1) Cr (0.5) Cd (0.05) Tl (0.01) Ni (0.2)

Mean concentration (ppm or mg/kg) 0.057 ± 0.02 110.62 ± 35.79 29.75 ± 14.71 0.44 ± 0.18 0.24 ± 0.07 14.45 ± 4.59
  1. aThe value in bracket shows the method detection limits (MDL) measured in mg/kg except for Hg which was in µg/kg. However, the data for Hg has been converted to mg/kg for consistency. Samples of algae from Kartasi site were in large quantity and therefore were divided into two portions, and one portion was freeze-dried (F1b) while the remaining portion was room temperature dried (F1a) before metal analysis
