The country’s name is followed by the number of individuals analysed. A coloured band representing the continents is next to each pie chart. The colours represent the haplotypes determined in Fig. 1. The haplotypes represented with grey colours, indicated with the letter U, are represented with a number (1–42) in Fig. 1. Separation is made in the pie chart when the haplotypes change for the same country. For example, Venezuela contains three unique haplotypes, meaning that these three individuals are different.
