Distance is plotted as the inverse of relative detection distance: increasing values represent movement of the participants towards the model from the theoretical maximum viewing distance, so correspond to smaller detection distances. The shaded lines represent 95 % confidence intervals, and crosses indicate censored data (missed targets). The minimum distance at which participants could approach targets varied along the route, so the relative detection distances for missed targets reflect how close participants could ever get to those targets
