There were four biological replicates at each of the twenty streams to assess small-scale variation in community composition. Bars represent the percentage of the total number of taxa occurring at a stream that were only collected in one of four biological replicates (transects). Grey lines connect the same stream over time. The amount of ‘undetected’ taxa was significantly different between identification levels (F2,156 = 37.6, p < 0.001). Sampling month had no significant effect on the percentage of rare taxa (F2,156 = 2.91, p = 0.057)
