Phasianidae, the most species-rich clade in Galliformes, is broken into three subgroups: (I) the “erectile clade” (gallopheasants, true partridges, grouse, turkeys, tragopans, and allies); (II) the “non-erectile clade” (Old world quail, junglefowl, francolins, snowcocks, peafowl, peacock-pheasants, argus pheasants, and allies); and (III) Arborophilinae (Hill partridges and allies).
