The legend depicts the three burrowing modes (forward, backward, and non-burrower) and locomotor modes (walker, hopper, and jumper/swimmer). Clades with only few species adapted to fossoriality have been indicated in the figure (Limnodynastes spp., Pseudophryne spp., and Uperoleia spp.)
