Our recessive-blindness equilibria approximations are accurate. The approximations developed in this paper (solid lines) are a good fit for calculated values of selection (s) that result in equilibrium for a given frequency of the blindness allele (q; circles) using Eq. 3. The dashed lines are our approximate bounds for the existence of three equilibria (i.e. for small and large values of s, there is one equilibrium; for intermediate values of s there are three possible equilibria). Other parameters are m=0.01, u=10−6, and Q=0.01
