Scorpions were found in the palaeosol horizon S 6.7, associated with tree roots in their original position. Higher levels in the sequence (S 3–5) reflect the explosive volcanism (e.g. air fall tuffs and pyroclastic flow deposits) believed to be responsible for preserving this remarkable biota in situ
