The large anterior lobe forms the origin of the bivalved shield following dorsal closure. The protocerebral segment in this group and in all crownward groups, is divided into two domains, the prosocerebral domain, which is medial and gives rise to the anterior sclerite [49, 53], and the archicerebrum, which lies lateral to it and gives rise to the eye. The border between the two is not marked
