  1. H4 and H6 data sets contain wild birds only, while H5N1 and H6* are poultry-only data sets. Mean ω and the number of positively selected sites for each gene of each subtype were estimated using FUBAR. Separate ratios of nonsynonymous to synonymous substitution rates for external (ω e ) and internal (ω i ) branches were estimated using HyPhy
