B) Amino-acid sequence average evolutionary distances within S100 ortholog groups. C, D) A representation of site-by-site selective pressure is shown on S100 sequences. The analysis is based on the nucleotide alignment of each ortholog group. SLAC analysis shows the probability of sites being under selective pressure (negative selection in light-blue (p < 0.2) or blue (p < 0.1), neutral selection in gray. Positive selection was not observed. Orthologs genes of the following species were included in this analysis: Danio rerio, Gasterosteus aculeatus, Oryzias latipes, Tetraodon nigroviridis and Takifugu rubripes; the results for two genes are shown.
