Method comparison. The type I error rate and power of the new method are compared with two other methods, that of Ané et al. [33] and Lopez et al. [13]. The null hypothesis is no temporal rate variation or homotachy. Type I error means the method rejects the null when it is actually true. Power is the probability the method correctly rejects the null when there actually is a divergence point. For the Bayesian method, the null hypothesis is rejected if log10 B DP > 1. Error bars indicate 95% confidence intervals accounting for simulation error.
