A) The different GroEL paralogs are indicated and the sites detected with high posterior probabilities within the class of functional divergence type I are shown in each node corresponding to the gene duplication events. B) Distribution of selective constraints along the GroEL multiple sequence alignment. GroES binding, polypeptide binding, ATP hydrolysis and polypeptide folding domains are indicated as green bars in the first block. Sites under functional divergence in each one of the comparisons are indicated as blue bars in the second block. Apical, equatorial and intermediate domains are labelled in red, green and blue colours, respectively in the third block.
