Rivers names are printed in italics. Photographs of fish were labelled by the locality where the respective morphs occur, with additional designations used in the aquarium trade added in quotation marks. Photographs were kindly provided by Peter Berger [62]. The dots marking sampling sites were colour-coded to show the distribution of the four major AFLP clades.
