(As the speed of adaptation is different in the different selection regimes, different time points have been used to informatively represent the dynamics in each regime.) Simulations start from a bacterium of type 0 at the center of the space. Interpolation was used to obtain a continuous distribution curve from discrete data points. Other parameters take the values  r = 0.1, K = 100, m = 10- 2u = 10- 3, μ = 10- 6g = 10- 1c = 0.
