  1. The image on the left shows two nuclei in a spore and the one on the right five nuclei in a spore, as revealed by nuclear staining with DAPI. This implies that the nuclear distribution in the asexual spores can deviate from 50%. Note that the proportion of even nuclei per spore varies greatly between the two tested heterokaryons.
