The x-axis is the relative excess of non-synonymous substitutions due to linked positive selection, calculated as ( k ̄ ′ − k ̄ )/ k ̄ averaged across all time points after 40000 generations, where k ̄ is the mean number of non-synonymous substitutions at non-beneficial sites averaged across 500 simulations with no positive selection and the prime indicates the corresponding values in a simulation with both positive and negative selection.
